Replit vs Lovable: Which Should You Build With in 2026?
The short version
Choose Replit if you write code or want to: a full cloud IDE with a terminal, any language and an agent inside it, billed by usage. Choose Lovable if you want a finished-looking app from a chat and never plan to open the code: better first render, a managed backend, GitHub sync and credits you can budget. They are not really the same product.
If you wanted Replit's agent without its IDE, and Lovable's simplicity without giving up the code, the third option at the end sits in that gap.

Replit or Lovable
Replit is a cloud development environment that added an agent; Lovable is a chat-first app builder that added a code view. Both turn a sentence into a running web app with a database, auth and a live URL. From there they diverge: Replit hands you an editor, a shell and a deployment console, Lovable hands you a polished preview and a publish button.
We make Coddy Build, a third builder in the same market. The table below has no Coddy column; the third option appears only at the end.
Replit vs Lovable at a glance
From each product's own pricing page, 20 September 2026.
| Feature | Replit | Lovable |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A cloud IDE with an AI agent, deployments and a database | A chat-first app builder with a managed backend |
| Entry paid plan | Core: $20 a month ($18 billed annually) including $20 of usage credit | Pro: $25 a month for 100 credits ($21 on annual billing) |
| Free tier | Free Mode: up to 30 hours of chat and 60 projects, limited agent access | 5 build credits a day up to 30 a month, plus 20 Cloud credits a month |
| How the AI is billed | Each agent task charged by effort against the credit, then pay as you go | Per request by complexity, about half a credit to 1.7; plan mode 1 credit a message |
| Backend | Replit database and object storage, plus anything you install | Lovable Cloud, a managed Supabase; one balance since August 2026 |
| Code access | Full editor and terminal | Code view and Dev Mode edits |
| Code export | GitHub import and export, ZIP download | Two-way GitHub sync on every plan |
| Languages and frameworks | Almost anything | React front ends |
| Design of the first render | Functional | The most polished of the two, in our view |
| Collaboration | Multiplayer editing; collaborators and viewers on Pro | Unlimited members on every plan |
| Publishing | Deployments billed separately, with autoscaling options | Included; hosting draws on Cloud credits |
| Mobile | Native mobile app | Works in the browser |

Pricing: usage against credits
Replit Core is $20 a month, or $18 billed annually, and includes $20 of usage credit for the agent and models. Pro is $100 with $100 of credit, ten parallel agents and up to fifteen collaborators. The agent charges each task by effort, so a large build can spend a big share of the month at once, and once the credit is gone you pay as you go. Deployments are a separate line.
Lovable Pro is $25 a month for 100 credits (about $21 annually), and Business $50 for the same credits plus SSO and roles. Requests cost about half a credit to 1.7 depending on complexity, and plan mode is 1 credit a message plus any research it runs. Since August 2026 hosting and data draw on the same balance, and an app at zero pauses.
Replit is the better deal for a developer who uses the whole environment. Lovable is the easier bill to predict for someone who only wants the app.
Who should pick Replit
- Developers who want an editor, a terminal and deployments in one tab, on any machine.
- Anyone building something that is not a React front end: a Python service, a bot, a scheduled job.
- Teams who edit one project at once, and people who want a native mobile app.
- Students who already write code and want the agent as a helper.
Who should pick Lovable
- Founders and designers who want the best-looking result for the fewest prompts.
- Anyone who will never open the code, or will hand it to a developer through GitHub.
- People who want a monthly credit budget rather than effort-based usage.
- Anyone starting from a Figma design.
What neither of them does
Replit shows you everything and explains nothing. Lovable hides everything and explains nothing. A beginner on Replit sees migrations, environment variables and a shell with no guide to what they are. A beginner on Lovable never sees them, until the day the AI is stuck and the only way forward is to look.
Coddy Build comes from the team behind Coddy, where people learn to code by writing it. Every turn ends with a plain-English summary of what changed and why, unfamiliar terms get concept cards, and the concepts link to courses. Each app gets its own Supabase you can browse, Builder plans start at $20 a month for 100 credits, each shown after every turn, publishing is free, and it runs on a phone. It is a builder, not an IDE: one framework, no terminal, no GitHub sync yet, and behind Lovable on first-render design.
A third option: the agent without the IDE
Coddy Build sits between the two: chat-first like Lovable, the code a first-class tab like Replit, and an explanation of every step that neither has. See the Replit alternatives page and the Lovable review for the tables against Coddy Build, or start with the free tier.
