The Rule in Letters

Part of the Exponents & Polynomials section of Coddy's Algebra journey. Lesson 19 of 64.

The third law, stated once for every case: (a^m)^n = a^(mn). Packages of m factors, n packages: mn factors of a.

Beside the other two, the family is complete:

a^m * a^n = a^(m+n), multiply side by side, add. a^m / a^n = a^(m-n), divide, subtract. (a^m)^n = a^(mn), nest, multiply. Three shapes, three moves on the counts, one counting argument under all of them.
