Solve, Then Draw

Part of the Inequalities & Absolute Value section of Coddy's Math journey. Lesson 9 of 64.

Solving and drawing go together. x + 1 > 3 is solved by subtracting 1: x > 2. Then the picture says it in one glance: an open dot at 2, shading to the right.

When you draw the solutions, the work is in two parts: first find the endpoint (solve for x), then decide the two details of the picture, whether the dot is open or closed (look at the sign: strict or "or equal to") and which way to shade (the way the sign points once x is first). Solve first; the picture follows from the answer, never from the original line.
