Do I need to own Microsoft Excel to take this course?

No. The lessons run in a spreadsheet inside your browser, so you don't need Excel installed or a Microsoft 365 subscription. The formulas you learn are standard spreadsheet formulas - they work the same way when you open a real .xlsx file in Excel, and almost identically in Google Sheets or LibreOffice Calc.

How long does it take to learn Excel?

Most people get comfortable with the everyday essentials - formulas, cell references, SUM/AVERAGE/IF, and basic lookups - in a couple of weeks of short daily sessions. Reaching the level employers mean by "strong Excel skills" (lookups, nested conditions, cleaning messy data, and summarizing it) usually takes a few weeks more of regular practice.

Is Excel hard to learn?

Excel is easier to start than a programming language: your first formula is one line and you see the result immediately. The parts people find hard are the ones that need practice rather than theory - absolute vs relative references, nested IFs, and lookup functions. Because each lesson here is a task in a live sheet, those are exactly the parts you spend your time doing.

Which Excel formulas should I learn first?

Start with SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX and COUNT, then learn how cell references work (including the $ that makes them absolute). After that: IF for conditional logic, COUNTIF and SUMIF for conditional totals, the text functions (LEFT, RIGHT, MID, TRIM, CONCAT) for cleaning up data, and finally VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH for pulling values from another table. The course follows roughly that order.
