Recap: Checkmate

Part of the Fundamentals section of Coddy's Chess journey. Lesson 31 of 41.

Everything from this chapter, mixed together. Three positions to read; try to name each one (mate? stalemate? just a check?) before you touch the drills.

Position one: white rook just landed on e8 against a castled black king

Position one: White just played Re8, rook to e8.

Position two: black king on h8, white queen on f7, white king on g6, Black to move

Position two: Black to move. Look carefully before you call it.

Position three: two white rooks on a8 and b7 against the black king on e8

Position three: White just played Ra8, rook to a8.

Try it yourself
