Using 'continue' in Loops

Part of the Fundamentals section of Coddy's Dart journey — lesson 46 of 94.

The continue statement allows you to skip the current iteration of a loop and move to the next one.

Create a for loop that skips printing number 3:

void main() {
  for (int i = 1; i <= 5; i++) {
    if (i == 3) {
      continue;
    }
    print(i);
  }
}

After executing the above code, the output will be:

1
2
4
5

Challenge

Beginner

In this challenge, you'll practice using the continue statement in a loop. The continue statement allows you to skip the current iteration of a loop and move to the next one.

Complete the code to print only the odd numbers from 1 to 10. When you encounter an even number, use continue to skip it and move to the next iteration.

Expected output:

1
3
5
7
9
Done printing odd numbers

Cheat sheet

The continue statement allows you to skip the current iteration of a loop and move to the next one.

void main() {
  for (int i = 1; i <= 5; i++) {
    if (i == 3) {
      continue;
    }
    print(i);
  }
}

Output:

1
2
4
5

Try it yourself

void main() {
  // We want to print only odd numbers from 1 to 10
  print('Printing odd numbers:');

  for (int i = 1; i <= 10; i++) {
    // TODO: Check if i is even (hint: use the modulo operator %)
    // If i is even, use the continue statement to skip to the next iteration

    // This will only print if the continue statement is not executed
    print(i);
  }

  print('Done printing odd numbers');
