Facing Kings
Part of the Basic Mates section of Coddy's Endgames journey. Lesson 12 of 26.
The rook mate has exactly one picture. The kings stand face to face on the edge with one square between them, so your king covers the three squares in front of his, and the rook checks along the edge from far away. When he faces you, check. When he steps aside, your king follows - never the rook.
