Example games

Test Roblox scripts online, right in your browser

Write a Roblox script on one side and play the game on the other. Press Play, walk with W A S D, jump with Space, and watch your code react: lava that kills, coins that count up on the leaderboard, a pad that throws you into the air. Nothing to install and no account needed.

The game runs on Coddy's own Roblox-style engine, written in Luau and played in your browser. It copies the parts of the Roblox API a beginner meets first, with the same names, defaults and error messages, so a script that works here is real Roblox code you can paste into Roblox Studio. Two files make a game: script.luau is your Script, and world.luau builds the place it runs in.

What makes this Roblox playground useful

  • A playable game next to the code. Press Play (or Ctrl+Enter) and your script runs in a 3D world with a character you control, a leaderboard and an output panel that shows every print and error.
  • The Roblox API a beginner needs: Instance.new, Parts and Touched, Humanoid health, speed and jump, Players and leaderstats, task.wait and task.delay, TweenService, CFrame and ClickDetector. Errors read the way Roblox Studio words them.
  • Edit the world too. world.luau builds the place with parts you can move, resize, recolor and add to, and the game reloads a moment after you stop typing.
  • Runs in any modern browser, so it works on a Chromebook, a school laptop, a phone or a tablet. On a touch screen you get a thumbstick and a jump button, as in the Roblox app.

What you can try in the Roblox playground

  • An obby: a lava strip that resets the player and a finish pad that adds a coin to the leaderboard. Change the reward, add a second lava strip, or make the finish move.
  • A coin collector: coins that vanish when touched, come back three seconds later and count up a Coins value in leaderstats. Make each coin worth more, keep collected coins gone for good, or add a coin of your own in world.luau.
  • A jump pad: touch it and your JumpHeight goes up for five seconds. Change the height or the time, or turn it into a speed pad with WalkSpeed.

Roblox scripting playground FAQ

Is this Roblox Studio online?
No. Roblox Studio is Roblox's desktop app for Windows and Mac. This is a playground on Coddy for writing and testing Roblox scripts in a browser. The scripts are written against the Roblox API, so what you learn here is what you use in Studio, but you cannot open your Roblox places or publish a game from here. Coddy is not affiliated with Roblox Corporation.
Can I write Roblox scripts on a Chromebook, phone or iPad?
Yes. The game runs inside the browser, so any modern browser will do. On a touch screen you walk with the on-screen thumbstick, jump with the button and drag to look around.
Will my script work in Roblox Studio?
A script that uses the API this playground covers is ordinary Roblox Luau and runs in Studio as written. Put it where world.luau puts it: the Obby and Coins scripts go in ServerScriptService, and the Lava floor and Jump pad scripts go inside their part, because they use script.Parent. Build the parts by hand in Studio, or copy the sizes and positions from world.luau.
What does the playground not do?
It is a beginner subset, not the whole engine. There are no models from the Toolbox, no meshes, sounds or decals, no publishing and no multiplayer: you play as one player. Physics covers walking, jumping, falling, touching and being pushed, not full rigid-body simulation. Plain Luau without the game, with io.read() input, runs in the Luau playground.
Is it free, and is my code saved?
It is free and needs no account. Your edits to each example game are kept in this browser, so you can close the tab and come back. Reset puts the current game back the way it started.
How do I learn Roblox scripting?
Start with the examples here: change one number, press Play, and see what it does. When you want a path, Coddy's Roblox Game Scripting course teaches events, parts, players, leaderstats and game loops one lesson at a time, with every script played in the same kind of game you see on this page.
