Unity Online Editor

Write Unity C# scripts, press Play and play the game in your browser. Nothing to install, works on a Chromebook. Free, no sign-up.

Write Unity scripts online and play them right away

Write C# on one side and play the game on the other. Each example is a small 3D game made of MonoBehaviour scripts: Update reads the keyboard, FixedUpdate pushes a Rigidbody, and OnTriggerEnter picks up a coin, the same way they work in the Unity editor. Press Play, click the game and use the arrow keys and Space. Nothing to install and no account needed, so it also works on a Chromebook.

The examples play at once. When you change a script, Play compiles your C# on Coddy's servers in a few seconds and the Console shows any error with its file and line, as Unity's Console does. The scene is a text file, scene.txt, so you can move objects, add more of them and set your scripts' public fields there too.

What this Unity playground does

  • Unity's own API in C#: GameObjects and components, physics with rigidbodies and colliders, triggers, the Input class and on screen text.
  • A Console like Unity's: compiler errors with their file, line and error code, and every Debug.Log while the game runs.
  • Hierarchy and Inspector panels: pick an object in the running game and watch its position and its script's fields change.
  • Three example games to start from: a coin rush with a rolling ball, a platformer with a jumping character and a brick breaker.

What you can try in the Unity playground

  • Coin rush: change the ball's force and jumpForce, add more coins to the scene, then show a message when every coin is collected.
  • Platformer: raise jumpHeight, lower gravity for a moon jump, or add a double jump with a counter that resets on the ground.
  • Brick breaker: make the paddle's speed faster, add a row of bricks to the scene, and count the lives the player has left.

Unity online editor FAQ

Can I use Unity online without installing anything?

Yes. This page runs your C# scripts and the game in your browser, so there is nothing to install and no account to make. The engine downloads once when the page opens (about 3 MB). The examples then start at once, and an edited script compiles on Coddy's servers in a few seconds.

Can I use Unity on a Chromebook?

The Unity editor does not install on ChromeOS, but this page runs in Chrome on any Chromebook: write the scripts, press Play and play. On a touch screen the game shows arrow keys and a Space key. To build and publish a game of your own later, you will need the Unity editor on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer.

Is this the real Unity?

No. It is Coddy's own engine, which runs your C# in the browser and copies the part of Unity 6 that scripts use: GameObjects and components, physics, UI text, scenes, saved data and input. It copies Unity's defaults and error messages on purpose, so your scripts carry over to the editor. It has no Scene view, no Asset Store, no animation and no 2D. Coddy is not affiliated with or endorsed by Unity Technologies. Unity is a trademark of Unity Technologies.

Is this Unity Studio?

No. Unity Studio is Unity's web editor for building 3D experiences without code. This page is for code: you write the C# scripts a Unity game is made of, press Play and see what they do.

Can I change the scene, not only the scripts?
Yes. Open the scene.txt tab: each object is a line with its shape, position, scale and color, and the lines under it add a collider, a rigidbody or a script. A line like script Ball force=20 sets a public field, the way a value typed into Unity's Inspector does. You cannot add images, sounds or models of your own.
Is it free, and is my code saved?

It is free and needs no account. Your edits to each example are kept in this browser, so you can close the tab and come back. Reset puts the current example back the way it started, and the download button saves the open file.

How do I learn Unity scripting?
Change one number in an example, press Play and see what it does. For a full path, take Coddy's Unity course, where every lesson has a game that runs in the browser, or the Unity Game Development path, which starts with the C# you need.
