The Seventh and the Eighth
Part of the Checkmate Patterns I section of Coddy's Tactics & Checkmates journey. Lesson 27 of 40.
A rook on the seventh rank is a fence: it owns the squares his king would step to. Then the other rook checks along the eighth, and there is nowhere to stand. The roller is the ladder again, two rungs long, against a king who thought he had air.
