Subshells: s, p, d

Part of the Atomic Structure section of Coddy's Chemistry journey. Lesson 24 of 45.

Shells split into subshells: shell 1 has 1s, shell 2 has 2s and 2p, shell 3 has 3s, 3p and 3d.

Each subshell is made of orbitals, boxes of 2 electrons each: s has 1 box (2), p has 3 (6), d has 5 (10). Shell 3 can hold 18.

Fill the lowest first: 1s, 2s, 2p. A pair in one box spins opposite ways, ↑↓, and in p each box gets one electron before any pairs.
