What Everything Is Made Of

Part of the Atomic Structure section of Coddy's Chemistry journey. Lesson 1 of 45.

Everything around you is matter, and all matter is made of tiny particles called atoms. A single grain of salt holds more atoms than there are stars in our galaxy.

A substance made of only one kind of atom is an element. There are 118 known elements, and every material is built from them, the way every word is built from letters.

The periodic table of the 118 elements, with six elements ringed

The periodic table: one box for every element

The periodic table lists every element in a box with its symbol: H for hydrogen, O for oxygen, Na for sodium, Cl for chlorine, N for nitrogen.
