    8x = 6x + 24
  2. 2.
    6x = 2x + 24
  3. 3.
    8x + 5 = 6x + 19
  4. 4.
    5x − 5 = 2x + 10
  5. 5.
    34 − 7x = 2x + 25
  6. 6.
    7(x − 2) = 6x − 3
  7. 7.
    8x + 7 = 3x + 27
  8. 8.
    7x − 6 = 2x + 19
  9. 9.
    35 − 5x = 8x + 9
  10. 10.
    2(x − 2) = 3x − 6
  11. 11.
    2(8x − 1) = 9x + 5
  12. 12.
    6(3x − 1) = 16x + 6

For 8x + 5 = 6x + 19, subtract 6x from both sides: 2x + 5 = 19, so x = 7.

Common questions

Which side should x go on?
Either works. Moving the smaller x term avoids a negative number in front of x.
What if the x terms cancel?
If what is left is true, like 5 = 5, every number is a solution. If it is false, there is no solution.
