Same Arc With Letters
Part of the Circles section of Coddy's Geometry journey. Lesson 40 of 62.
Two equal angles with letters give an equation: one label equals the other. Solve it, and put x back to check that the two angles really match.
Here the two angles stand on the chord AB from the same side, so 2x + 6 = x + 20. Take x from both sides: x + 6 = 20, so x = 14. Check: 2 × 14 + 6 = 34 and 14 + 20 = 34.
Challenge
P and Q are on circle O, on the same side of the chord AB. Tap the two angles, pick the rule that connects them, and solve the equation the board writes for x.
