A Side From a Cosecant
Part of the Right-Triangle Trigonometry section of Coddy's Trigonometry journey. Lesson 42 of 50.
A reciprocal ratio can find a side directly. Since csc θ is hypotenuse over opposite, the hypotenuse is the opposite side times csc θ: one multiplication.
The side opposite 40° is 6 and you want the hypotenuse x. csc(40°) = x/6, so x = 6csc(40°), about 9.33. With the sine the same answer comes from x = 6/sin(40°): multiplying by csc is dividing by sin.
Challenge
In a right triangle the side opposite a 32° angle is 9 and the hypotenuse is x, so csc(32°) = x/9. Solve for x and round it to two decimal places. Then press Check.
