From Highest and Lowest

Part of the Graphs of Trig Functions section of Coddy's Trigonometry journey. Lesson 20 of 49.

A buoy rides waves between 1 m and 7 m above the sea floor. The midline sits halfway, and the amplitude is half the gap:

k=7+12=4k = \frac{7+1}{2} = 4

a=7−12=3a = \frac{7-1}{2} = 3

A wave between 1 and 7 around the midline y = 4

If the wave is on its midline at 0° and rising, it is y=3sin⁡(x)+4y = 3\sin\left(x\right)+4: the sine starts on its midline going up.
