Every way to learn

Read, listen, test yourself, ask the AI, or look up anything you've already covered. Every lesson meets you where you are.

Intro to Variables
Audio

A variable is a named container that stores a value you can reference later in your program.

In Python, you create one by writing the name, an equals sign, then the value you want to store.

The value can change over time. Reassigning the name simply points it to a new value.

Why learn Godot game development on Coddy

  • It starts at GDScript, so a script never asks for an idea you have not met yet.
  • Every lesson is a game you can play, and the last step builds four whole games.
  • Your game runs in Godot 4.7, the real engine, beside your code. Nothing to install.
  • The scripts and scenes are ordinary Godot files, so they open in the Godot editor too.

Questions about Godot game development

How do you learn Godot?

Learn the GDScript basics, then how a Godot game is built: nodes in a scene tree, scripts on nodes, input, signals and timers. Then build small games from start to finish. This path follows that order.

Should I learn GDScript before Godot?

It helps. The Godot course teaches the GDScript each game needs, but the first step of this path gives you variables, conditions, loops and functions first, so the game lessons are only about the game.

Can I open these games in the Godot editor?

Yes. Install the free Godot 4 editor, make a scene with the same nodes and attach the script. The code you write here is plain Godot GDScript.

What if I already know GDScript?

Start at step 2. The Godot course starts from your first node and does not repeat the GDScript fundamentals.

How long does it take to learn Godot?

About three to four months at an hour a day: a few weeks of GDScript, then about ten weeks of Godot.

Is Coddy part of Godot?

No. Coddy is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Godot Foundation. Godot is its trademark.

Do I get a certificate for the Godot Game Developer path?

Yes. Finish every step and you get one free certificate for the whole Godot Game Developer path. It lists each course you finished on the way, and links each course's own certificate, so anyone can check every skill it names. You can add it to your LinkedIn profile. It is a certificate of completion from Coddy, not an accredited qualification.

Other learning paths

The same courses, arranged for a different role. Progress carries over: a course finished on one path counts on every path that includes it.
