ADD and SUB

Part of the Arithmetic and Control Flow section of Coddy's Assembly journey. Lesson 1 of 28.

add destination, source increases the destination. sub destination, source subtracts the source from it. Neither changes a register used only as the source. Small signed results in this section fit in 64 bits.

mov rax, 17
add rax, 8
sub rax, 4

The running value is 17, then 25, then 21.

Keep a running total in the destination; operand order matters for sub.

These are instruction excerpts. Challenges keep the complete two-file setup from Fundamentals. The supplied solve: label begins your calculation, and the supplied ret returns to the harness that prints rax. Input parsing and number printing are provided so you can focus on this lesson.

Challenge

Easy

A store has r8 items, receives r9 more, and sells r10. Compute the remaining stock. Inputs are between 0 and 1000 and sales never exceed available stock.

Edit solution.asm between solve: and the supplied ret. The locked main.asm reads the test numbers into r8, r9, r10, and r11 in order, and also stores them as four consecutive 8-byte integers at values. Unused inputs are zero. Leave your answer in rax; the harness prints it as one signed decimal integer followed by a newline. Keep the supplied wrapper and do not print anything yourself.
