Challenge

Quicklime, calcium oxide, is made by heating limestone in a kiln to about 900 ∘C900\ \mathrm{^{\circ}C}:

CaCO3(s)⇌CaO(s)+CO2(g)ΔH=+178 kJ\mathrm{CaCO_3(s)} \rightleftharpoons \mathrm{CaO(s)} + \mathrm{CO_2(g)} \qquad \Delta H = +178\ \mathrm{kJ}

A stream of air is blown through the kiln, carrying the carbon dioxide away as it forms. Which way does this shift the equilibrium?
