Pawn and King Forks

Part of the Core Motifs section of Coddy's Tactics & Checkmates journey. Lesson 3 of 35.

The cheapest fork is a pawn's and the most surprising is the king's. A pawn step attacks two squares, so two enemy pieces side by side are a fork waiting to happen - and a trade can put them there. In the endgame the king forks too: he attacks every square around him.
