What is ES6 ?

Lesson 1 of 9 in Coddy's Tricky parts of Modern Javascript (ES6+) course.

Before learning ES6 features, one should understand - What is ES6 ?

ECMAScript is the standard and official name of Javascript

Javascript is the language of web. It was invented by Brendan Eich in 1995, and became an ECMA standard in 1997.

ECMAScript versions have been abbreviated to ES1, ES2, ES3, ES5, and ES6.

After 2016, they started naming versions by years (ECMAScript 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020).

ECMAScript 2015 was the second major revision to JavaScript.

ECMAScript 2015 is also known as ES6 and ECMAScript 6.
