Recipe Book: Favorites Tab

Part of the Lists and Screens section of Coddy's Flutter journey. Lesson 32 of 33.

Hearts are only useful if you can find your favorites again. A second tab, Favorites, shows only the recipes with a red heart.

Both tabs show a list of recipes that looks the same, so write the list once, as a method that takes the recipes to show:

Widget recipeList(List<Recipe> shown) {
  return ListView.builder(...);
}

The favorites are the recipes where favorite is true. Work them out at the top of build, so the tab is right after every setState. The body then shows recipeList(recipes) or recipeList(favorites), depending on the tab.

Challenge

Hard

Add tabs to the recipe book:

  • move the ListView.builder into a method Widget recipeList(List<Recipe> shown) that lists shown
  • add a NavigationBar with two tabs: Recipes (Icons.menu_book_outlined, Icons.menu_book when selected) and Favorites (Icons.star_border, Icons.star when selected), keeping the tab's index in state
  • the Recipes tab lists every recipe, the Favorites tab only the favorites

Try it yourself

void main() {
  runApp(const MyApp());
}

  const MyApp({super.key});
