Draw a Trapezoid and Kite
Part of the Polygons & Quadrilaterals section of Coddy's Geometry journey. Lesson 35 of 61.
A trapezoid needs one pair of parallel sides: two sides with steps in the same direction, like 6 across and 0 up for the bottom and 3 across and 0 up for the top. The other two sides must not be parallel, or it becomes a parallelogram. Tilted bases work too: 4 across and 2 up runs the same way as 2 across and 1 up.
A kite needs two pairs of equal neighbouring sides. Mirror one half of it: from a top point, go 2 back and 1 down to one side and 2 across and 1 down to the other, then join both to a bottom point straight below the top, lower than the two side points. The two upper sides are equal, and so are the two lower ones.
Challenge
On the squared paper, draw two shapes. First a trapezoid that is not a parallelogram and has no side along a grid line. Then a kite that is not a rhombus, with TL as one of its sides. Then press Check.
