Height or Slant Height?

This cone's height is the dashed line, 4 long. It goes straight down inside, from the tip to the center of the base. The tip is called the apex. The slant height, 5, goes down the outside to the edge of the base.
The height, the radius and the slant height make a right triangle. So the slant height is always the longest of the three.
A pyramid also rises to an apex. It has a height inside it and a slant height down its faces.
