Aldehydes, Ketones, Amines
Part of the Structure and Bonding section of Coddy's Chemistry journey. Lesson 44 of 49.
Carbonyl group, C=O: at a chain's end, an aldehyde (ethanal CH₃CHO); inside a chain, a ketone (propanone CH₃COCH₃).
Propanone, a ketone: the carbonyl group, C=O, is shaded
Amino group: a nitrogen on a carbon, often -NH₂ (methylamine CH₃NH₂). Amino acids carry an amino and a carboxyl group.
Challenge
Propanone, CH₃COCH₃, dissolves paint and nail polish. Mark its functional group.
