Recap - Butanol and Ether
Part of the Structure and Bonding section of Coddy's Chemistry journey. Lesson 48 of 49.
Challenge
Butan-1-ol and ethoxyethane have the same molecular formula, C₄H₁₀O, and almost the same mass. Yet butan-1-ol boils at 118 °C and ethoxyethane at only 35 °C.
Two molecules with the same formula, C4H10O
The difference lies in a functional group that lets butan-1-ol molecules hydrogen bond to each other. Mark every functional group of butan-1-ol.
