Title and Run Again
Lesson 20 of 20 in Coddy's Unity Game: Sky Lanes course.
Last, the game gets a beginning and an end. It opens on a title: the name, the best score and Jump to run. The road stands still and the keys do nothing until a jump key (Space or W) starts the run.
That needs a second state beside over: running. GameOver ends the run, and a jump key after it loads the scene again, which puts everything back as it was at the start:
if (over && (Input.GetKeyDown(KeyCode.Space) || Input.GetKeyDown(KeyCode.W)))
{
SceneManager.LoadScene(SceneManager.GetActiveScene().buildIndex);
}The best score is in PlayerPrefs, so it survives the reload.
Challenge
Medium- In
GameManageraddusing UnityEngine.SceneManagement;andpublic bool running;. Start setsspeed = 0fand the title message. - In Update: Space or W while not running and not over starts the run (
running = true, empty message); Space or W after a game over loads the scene again; and while not running, return. - GameOver now returns if not running, sets
running = false, and ends the message with"\nJump to run again". - In
Runner, read the keys and the triggers only whilegame.running.
