Shield

Lesson 15 of 20 in Coddy's Unity Game: Sky Lanes course.

The second power-up is a shield: it takes one hit. The runner glows blue while it has one.

if (shield)
{
    shield = false;
    Destroy(other.gameObject);
    return;
}
game.GameOver();

The runner's colour is its material's colour, GetComponent<Renderer>().material.color. Keep the colour it starts with, and every frame pick blue or that colour.

Challenge

Easy
  1. In Runner add public bool shield;, private Renderer body; and private Color color;; in Start set body = GetComponent<Renderer>(); and color = body.material.color;.
  2. When an obstacle is hit with the shield on, use it up and destroy the obstacle, as above.
  3. A Shield tag sets shield = true and destroys the pickup.
  4. At the end of Update: body.material.color = shield ? new Color(0.3f, 0.9f, 1f) : color;.
  5. In Road add shieldPrefab; after the magnet, else if (roll < 0.11f) place a shield the same way.
