Deeper Into the Keep

Part of the Projects section of Coddy's Pygame journey. Lesson 28 of 31.

The keep has three rooms. Through the open door, the knight comes out on the P of the next room. X is new: a spider that climbs up and down.

MAP2 = [
    "##############",
    "#P...#...X...#",
    "#....#.......#",
    "#..S.#..###..#",
    "#....#..#K...#",
    "#.......#....#",
    "##.######X####",
    "#....S.......#",
    "#.H..........#",
    "###D##########",
]
MAP3 = [
    "##############",
    "#....#...X...#",
    "#.P..#.......#",
    "#....#..S....#",
    "#..S.....###.D",
    "#....#...#K.S#",
    "###.###X.#...#",
    "#........#...#",
    "#..H.....#...#",
    "##############",
]
ROOMS = [MAP, MAP2, MAP3]

level is the number of the room the knight is in, counting from 0. Going through the door builds the next room from its map, and puts the knight on its start:

level += 1
room = Room(ROOMS[level])
knight.rect.center = room.start

That is the reason for the Room class: one line makes a whole room, walls, key, door, enemies and potions. The knight is the same object, so his hearts come with him. For now the last room's door leads nowhere: move on only while level < len(ROOMS) - 1.

A spider is an Enemy with dx = 0 and a dy. The same update turns it at walls.

Challenge

Hard
  1. Add MAP2, MAP3 and ROOMS from above, under MAP.
  2. Before the loop, set level = 0 and room = Room(ROOMS[level]).
  3. In Room, an X adds Enemy(spider_img, cell_rect(col, row), 0, speed) with speed = random.choice([-2, 2]).
  4. After the door opens: when room.door_open, the knight touches room.door and level < len(ROOMS) - 1, add 1 to level, build the room and move the knight to its start.
  5. Show f"Room {level + 1} of {len(ROOMS)}" in (240, 240, 240) with its top right at (660, 8): label.get_rect(topright=(660, 8)).
