Swing the Sword

Part of the Projects section of Coddy's Pygame journey. Lesson 26 of 31.

Space swings the knight's sword for 12 frames, on the side he faces. A slime the blade touches is gone.

The knight remembers the way he last walked in knight.facing: (1, 0) is right, (0, -1) up. The blade is a 36 by 36 box 34 pixels from his middle that way:

def sword(self):
    box = pygame.Rect(0, 0, 36, 36)
    box.centerx = self.rect.centerx + self.facing[0] * 34
    box.centery = self.rect.centery + self.facing[1] * 34
    return box

knight.swing counts the frames of a swing down to 0, and Space starts a new one only at 0, so holding Space does not keep the blade out. While it runs, every enemy touching the box is removed with enemy.kill(), which takes a sprite out of every group it is in.

sword.png points up. pygame.transform.rotate turns it counterclockwise by the angle for each way:

ANGLES = {(0, -1): 0, (-1, 0): 90, (0, 1): 180, (1, 0): -90}

Challenge

Hard
  1. Add ANGLES under the pictures.
  2. Give the knight self.facing = (1, 0), self.swing = 0 and the sword method above.
  3. Each arrow also sets knight.facing: Left (-1, 0), Right (1, 0), Up (0, -1), Down (0, 1).
  4. A KEYDOWN of Space while state == "playing" and knight.swing == 0 sets knight.swing = 12.
  5. Before the hurt test: while knight.swing > 0, take 1 from it and kill() every enemy whose rect collides with knight.sword().
  6. While swinging, draw pygame.transform.rotate(sword_img, ANGLES[knight.facing]) centred on knight.sword(), after the knight.
