What makes text look creepy?
Horror works by suggestion, and creepy text is the same: a name that is almost normal, with a few marks bleeding off the bottom of the letters, reads as more wrong than a word buried in noise. The technique is the glitch engine's - Unicode combining marks stacked on each letter - held back to a fringe. The letters keep their shape; the marks hint at what is underneath.

An ordinary phrase with a fringe of marks is creepier than a scary word: the wrongness is in the contrast.
Common creepy text mistakes
- Turning the intensity up until it stops reading. At that point it is cursed text, and the unease is gone with the words.
- Switching the Through zone on for a name; the strokes get clipped in a name field and look like a rendering bug rather than a haunting.
- Using a scary word. A plain word with a drip is creepier than "death" in any style.
