Why IPv6
Lesson 38 of 46 in Coddy's IP Addressing and Subnetting course.
IPv4 has about 4.3 billion addresses, and the world ran out. IPv6 fixes the shortage with brute force: 128 bits per address instead of 32.
The notation changes with it: eight groups of four hex digits, joined by colons. The loopback address, IPv6's answer to 127.0.0.1, is one bit at the very end and zeros everywhere else: 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0001.
Nobody writes all that out, and the next lesson shows the shortcuts. But you must be able to expand any shortened address back to this full form.
