Game Over
Part of the Sprites and Images section of Coddy's Pygame journey. Lesson 37 of 39.
With no lives left, the game should stop. Everything that changes the game happens in the update part of the loop, so one if around it stops the whole game while the drawing goes on:
if lives > 0:
player.update()
# ... everything up to the crashes
explosions.update()Keep explosions.update() outside it, so the blast that ended the game still plays out.
Then tell the player. Draw the message only while lives <= 0, and centre it with get_rect(center=(x, y)), as the Lives counter used topright.
Challenge
MediumEnd the game when the lives run out.
- Put the update part, from
player.update()to the crashes, underif lives > 0:. Leaveexplosions.update()outside it. - Once
lives <= 0, drawGame overcentred at(320, 240).
Press Play and let three enemies through: Game over shows and everything stops. Then Check.
