How do you get different fonts on Twitter (X)?

Text formatting on X is limited to a few premium features, and none of them reach the display name or the bio. What has always worked is Unicode: 𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐝, 𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑐 and ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ ᴄᴀᴘꜱ are characters, not formatting, so they show in a tweet, a reply, a name, a bio and a quote-tweet alike, on every client.

The seven styles pinned here are the ones X's web and mobile apps render cleanly and that stay legible at timeline size: bold, italic, bold italic, bold sans, script, small caps and fullwidth. Combining-mark styles (strikethrough, zalgo) also post, but X's line height clips the stacked marks in names.

One caution before you post: X's search does not match styled letters to plain ones, so keep hashtags and the words you want found in plain text.

What to know about fonts on X

• A tweet's 280-character limit counts most Unicode letters as two, so a fully bold tweet holds about 140 letters. Use the styles for a headline word, not the whole post.
• Display names are capped at 50 characters and accept Unicode; the @handle does not.
• Styled text is skipped or spelled out by screen readers and by X's own alt-text pipeline - anyone using assistive tech reads a bold tweet as a run of symbols.
• Fullwidth letters (Ｌｉｋｅ ｔｈｉｓ) are the vaporwave look; they count as two characters each and take twice the width.

• Styling the whole tweet. Most Unicode letters cost two characters against the 280 limit, and a wall of bold is skipped.
• Putting keywords or hashtags in a fancy font. X's search treats 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 and word as different strings, so the tweet stops being found.
• Pasting zalgo into the display name; the marks are clipped and it renders as a broken character in notifications.
