Batteries

Lesson 15 of 20 in Coddy's Roblox Game: Escape the Dark course.

A flashlight that shines forever makes the dark easy. Now it has a Battery, an attribute of the tool from 0 to Settings.BatteryMax, that drains Settings.BatteryDrain a second while the beam is on. Empty, the beam goes off and will not come on.

One loop on the server drains every held, lit flashlight, four times a second. Some rooms have a BatterySpot, and a battery there refills Settings.BatteryRefill, never past full:

flashlight:SetAttribute("Battery", math.min(Settings.BatteryMax, flashlight:GetAttribute("Battery") + Settings.BatteryRefill))

The HUD shows what is left. The battery is an attribute, so the player's LocalScript can read it.

Challenge

Hard
  1. Start every flashlight's Battery at Settings.BatteryMax; its Activated switches the beam off, or on only with battery left.
  2. A loop with task.spawn: every 0.25 seconds, drain every player's held, lit flashlight (at 0, the beam goes off).
  3. In addRoom, a room with a BatterySpot gets a clone of ServerStorage.Battery there; its prompt refills the player's flashlight and destroys the battery.
  4. In DarkClient, on RunService.Heartbeat, show Battery 76% in hud.Battery.

Press Play, then Check.
