Title Screen
Lesson 20 of 21 in Coddy's Unity Game: Sky Lanes course.
The game gets a beginning: it opens on a title with the name, the best score and Jump to run. The road stands still and the keys do nothing until a jump key (Space or W) starts the run.
That needs a second state beside over: running. It starts false, a jump sets it true and GameOver sets it false again. A \n in the message starts a new line:
messageText.text = "My Game\nBest: " + PlayerPrefs.GetInt("BestScore", 0) + "\nPress to start";Everything in Update that moves the game comes after if (!running) return;, so on the title nothing moves.
Challenge
MediumOpen the game on a title that waits for a jump.
- In
GameManageraddpublic bool running;. Start setsspeed = 0fandmessageText.text = "Sky Lanes\nBest: " + PlayerPrefs.GetInt("BestScore", 0) + "\nJump to run";. - In Update, Space or W while
!running && !oversetsrunning = trueand an empty message; thenif (!running) return;. - GameOver starts with
if (!running) return;andrunning = false;. - In
Runner, read the keys and the triggers only whilegame.running.
Press Play: the title waits until you jump. Then Check.
