Weather App: Next Three Days
Part of the Data and the Network section of Coddy's Flutter journey. Lesson 24 of 27.
The answer for a city also holds a forecast: a JSON list inside the object, one item per day.
"forecast": [
{"date": "2026-10-20", "condition": "Cloudy", "high": 22, "low": 15},
...
]A list inside an object is read the same way as a list on its own: take it out as List<dynamic>, then map each item through its own fromJson. Look at Weather.fromJson at the bottom of the file: it already does this, so weather.forecast is a List<DayForecast>.
final days = json['forecast'] as List<dynamic>;
forecast: days
.map((day) => DayForecast.fromJson(day as Map<String, dynamic>))
.toList(),Each day has a DateTime. DateFormat('EEEE') turns it into the weekday's full name, Tuesday. A for inside the Column's children makes one row per day.
Challenge
MediumUnder the current weather, show the next three days:
- import
package:intl/intl.dart - after a
SizedBox(height: 32), oneRowper day: the weekday withDateFormat('EEEE'), in anExpanded, then the high and low as22° / 15° - give each row
32pixels of padding on the left and right
Try it yourself
import 'dart:convert';
import 'package:flutter/material.dart';
import 'api.dart';
void main() {
runApp(const MyApp());
}
