Weather App: Pick a City
Part of the Data and the Network section of Coddy's Flutter journey. Lesson 27 of 27.
The last feature: a row of cities at the top, Lisbon, Tokyo and Oslo. Tapping one loads its weather.
Picking a city is a reload with a different path. Keep the chosen city in the state, give loadWeather a parameter, and build the path from it:
Future<Weather> loadWeather(String city) async {
final body = await fetch('/weather/${city.toLowerCase()}');
return Weather.fromJson(jsonDecode(body));
}The buttons say Tokyo, but the server's path is /weather/tokyo. toLowerCase() turns one into the other. Paths on most servers care about capitals, so /weather/Tokyo is Not found.
Put the row of buttons outside the FutureBuilder, so it stays on the screen while a city loads. A Column with the row on top and the FutureBuilder in an Expanded below does that.
Challenge
HardAdd a city picker:
- a
String city = 'Lisbon';in the state, andloadWeather(String city)fetching/weather/plus the city in small letters - at the top of the body, a centered
Rowof threeTextButtons:Lisbon,Tokyo,Oslo - tapping one sets
cityand a new_weatherinsetState - under the row, the
FutureBuilderin anExpanded, and Try again reloads the chosen city
