Fringes on a Screen
Part of the Optics, Waves and Modern Physics section of Coddy's Physics journey. Lesson 30 of 53.
On a screen L away, the fringes are evenly spaced:
Δy = λL / d
650 nm, d = 0.2 mm, L = 1 m: Δy = 3.25 mm.
Longer λ, farther screen, or closer slits: wider fringes.
Challenge
Light of wavelength 650 nm falls on two slits 0.2 mm apart. The screen is 1 m away. How far apart Δ y are neighbouring bright fringes, in mm?
