Light Through Two Slits
Part of the Optics, Waves and Modern Physics section of Coddy's Physics journey. Lesson 29 of 53.
Young's two slits gave bright and dark fringes: light is a wave.
Bright where the path difference d sin θ is whole wavelengths:
d sin θ = nλ
n = 0 straight ahead; n = 1, 2, ... on each side.
Challenge
Red light of wavelength 650 nm passes through two slits 0.2 mm apart. At what angle θ is the first bright fringe beside the middle (n = 1)?
