The Escort

Part of the The King and the Pawn section of Coddy's Endgames journey. Lesson 7 of 26.

A pawn cannot walk home alone: the enemy king simply stands in front of it. So your king goes first - in front of the pawn, clearing the road - and the pawn follows only into squares the king already guards. King in front wins; pawn in front is a draw. Escort, do not push.
