Skip and Win
Lesson 17 of 18 in Coddy's Roblox Game: Tower Defense course.
Waiting for the next wave is dull when you are ready. The HUD's Skip wait button asks the server to start the next wave now, through Remotes.Skip.
The server waits the break in small steps, so it can stop early. A workspace attribute Break says when a break is on, and a variable skipped is reset at the start of every break:
skipped = false
local started = time()
while time() - started < Settings.WaveBreak and not skipped do
task.wait(0.1)
endWhen the last wave is over, the base held: the server sets the workspace attribute Status to "Won", and the client shows the HUD's Message.
Challenge
Hard- In
DefenseServer, addlocal skipped = false, and connectremotes.Skip.OnServerEventto set it to true while theBreakattribute is on. - Before each wave: set
Breakto true, resetskipped, wait until the break is over or skipped (in steps of 0.1), and setBreakto false. - After the loop, set the workspace attribute
Statusto"Won". - In
DefenseClient, theSkipbutton firesremotes.Skip; andshowEnd(), called once and on every change ofStatus, shows theMessagelabel withYou defended the base!when it is"Won".
This lesson's world has two short waves. Press Play, then Check.
