The Shop
Lesson 7 of 22 in Coddy's Roblox Game: Tower Defense course.
Now the player's side. DefenseClient is a LocalScript inside the HUD, a ScreenGui Roblox copies onto each player's screen, so script.Parent is the HUD. Its Shop frame holds a TextButton per tower, named after it.
A LocalScript can start before the game's objects reach the player's device, so it finds them with WaitForChild. A button's Activated event fires when it is clicked or tapped:
local Settings = require(game.ReplicatedStorage:WaitForChild("Settings"))
local button = script.Parent.Shop.Frost
button.Text = "Frost tower"
button.Activated:Connect(function()
print("Frost picked")
end)Challenge
MediumPut prices on the shop's buttons in DefenseClient.
- Add
local Settings = require(game.ReplicatedStorage:WaitForChild("Settings"))andlocal hud = script.Parent. - For each TextButton in
hud.Shop, set its text tobutton.Name .. " $" .. Settings.Towers[button.Name].Price. - On its
Activated, store its name inlocal selected.
Press Play: the shop reads Archer $60, Cannon $120 and Frost $90. Then Check.
Try it yourself
