Refine, Don't Restart

Part of the Prompting Techniques section of Coddy's AI Prompts journey. Lesson 16 of 24.

The first answer is rarely the final one. When it's close, don't start over with a longer prompt. Tell the AI what to change: its draft is still in the chat, so it can edit it.

You: Write an email to my team saying the planning meeting moved from Tuesday the 14th to Thursday the 16th at 10 am.
AI: Hi team, I wanted to let everyone know that, after a lot of discussion with the venue and the catering company, we have decided to move our quarterly planning meeting from Tuesday the 14th to Thursday the 16th, starting at 10 am in the large conference room on the third floor. Please update your calendars, bring your department numbers, and let me know if you cannot make it. Thanks so much, Dana
You: Make it shorter: at most 40 words. Keep the new day, date and time.
Meeting moved to Thu 16th at 10 am. Let everyone know. Thanks, Dana.

Good follow-ups name the change and what to keep: shorter, keep the date, friendlier, same facts, as a list. Saying what to keep matters, because a rewrite can drop the one detail you needed.
