Same Prompt, Same Reply
Part of the Prompting Techniques section of Coddy's AI Prompts journey. Lesson 19 of 24.
Send the same prompt twice and you may get two different answers. The AI picks each next word with a bit of chance, controlled by the temperature: low means it nearly always takes the most likely word, high means it takes more surprising ones.
We asked the model in this course for a coffee shop name ten times. At temperature 0 it answered Café Vita all ten times. At 1.4 it gave ten different names, from BrewSpot to CaffeineQuest.
The seed is the starting number for that chance. Same prompt, same settings and same seed give the same reply, which is how the tasks in this course can check your prompt fairly. Use a low temperature for facts and fixed formats, and a higher one when you want fresh ideas.
