Antacids

Part of the Acids and Bases section of Coddy's Chemistry journey. Lesson 26 of 30.

Stomach acid is HCl, about pH 2. An antacid is a mild base that neutralizes the extra: Mg(OH)₂, Al(OH)₃, CaCO₃.

A carbonate gives off CO₂ as it neutralizes:

CaCO₃ + 2HCl → CaCl₂ + H₂O + CO₂
