pH of Strong Bases
Part of the Acids and Bases section of Coddy's Chemistry journey. Lesson 14 of 30.
Strong base: [OH⁻] first, then [H₃O⁺] = 10⁻¹⁴ / [OH⁻], then the pH. 0.001 M NaOH: pH 11.
Two OH⁻ a unit (Ca(OH)₂, Ba(OH)₂): double first. 0.05 M Ba(OH)₂: [OH⁻] = 0.1 M, pH 13.
Challenge
An oven cleaner is diluted until it is NaOH. What is [OH⁻] in it, and what is its pH?
