Damage Numbers
Lesson 13 of 20 in Coddy's Roblox Game: Battlegrounds course.
A hit should show how much it did: a number that pops up over the target and is gone a moment later. It is a BillboardGui with a TextLabel, adorned to the target's root, and Debris removes it after 0.8 seconds without holding up the game:
Debris:AddItem(tag, 0.8)It goes in hurt, after the block rule, so a blocked hit shows the damage it did. math.round keeps the number whole.
Challenge
MediumWrite damageNumber(character, amount) above hurt: a BillboardGui named Damage (60 by 30, 4.5 studs above the root, adorned to it) holding a TextLabel that reads -10 ("-" .. math.round(amount)), parented to the character and removed by Debris after 0.8 seconds. Call it in hurt after the damage is done.
Press Play, then Check.
