A Walk Cycle
Part of the Worlds section of Coddy's Pygame journey. Lesson 26 of 35.
A blob that slides with one image looks frozen. The pack has a second pose, blob_walk.png, with the feet in another place. Showing the two in turn makes it walk.
Keep both poses in a list and a frame counter in the sprite. Each update, count up and pick a pose from the count:
self.frames = [blob_img, blob_walk_img]
self.timer = 0
# in update
self.timer += 1
self.image = self.frames[self.timer // 10 % 2]self.timer // 10 goes up by one every 10 frames, and % 2 turns that into 0, 1, 0, 1. Each pose shows for 10 frames, six steps a second. A smaller number than 10 makes the feet move faster.
The drawing loop already blits blob.image, so changing self.image is all it takes.
Challenge
Easy- In
Blob.__init__, makeself.frames = [blob_img, blob_walk_img]andself.timer = 0(blob_walk_imgis loaded in the starter). - At the start of
update, add 1 toself.timerand setself.image = self.frames[self.timer // 10 % 2].
