Build Animation

Lesson 11 of 18 in Coddy's Roblox Game: Factory Tycoon course.

Bought items pop into place. A tycoon feels better when they rise out of the ground and fade in. A tween does it: remember where the part belongs and how see-through it should be, move it 8 studs down and make it invisible, then tween it back:

local goal = part.Position
local transparency = part.Transparency
part.Position = goal - Vector3.new(0, 8, 0)
part.Transparency = 1
TweenService:Create(part, TweenInfo.new(1), { Position = goal, Transparency = transparency }):Play()

An item can be one part (a dropper) or a Model of parts (the walls), so build rises the item itself if it is a part, and every part inside it.

A dropper that starts while it is still underground drops its first ore into the void, so a bought dropper starts once it has landed: task.delay(1, startDropper, item) runs it a second later.

Challenge

Medium

Animate building:

  1. Get TweenService and write riseIn(part) as in the lesson.
  2. In build, after moving the item into the factory: rise the item if it is a BasePart, and every BasePart among its descendants.
  3. Start a bought dropper with task.delay(1, startDropper, item).

Press Play and watch the walls go up, then Check.
